Interim Program Director

This position is for the term of 4, 6 or 12 months.  It has the potential to turn into ongoing employment.

Brief Job Description:

The BBC Program Director is responsible to lead and train the summer and winter staff teams and create, develop and implement programs for ages 6-18 for both summer and winter camps. Various other camp tasks are assigned according to skills and gifts.

  • Experience in camping/ministry/outdoor education ideal but not required (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Understands the importance and relevance of Jesus Christ and seeks to follow him.
  • Must be an active member in a Christian Church, ideally with an Anabaptist perspective.
  • Must be physically capable of the rigors of summer camp
  • Must be outstandingly fun


This position requires vision, strong managerial skills, leadership, strong relational skills, energy, a strong Christian faith commitment (preferably an Anabaptist perspective), adaptability, a love for youth and a passion for outdoor ministry.


Because this is an interim position, and the ideal candidate will be offered flexibility in length of service, it is worthwhile listing the responsibilities of the position by time of year. That listing is below. It is important to understand that this is not a comprehensive listing and other duties may be required and some of these may not be required.


Camp is a seasonal business. Expect to be at camp from 7am – 9pm Mon – Fri during the summer and some on Saturdays and Sundays. The winter schedule is varied. Fall and Spring are much less rigorous and allow for great flexibility. Expect more than 40 hours most weeks and a lot of vacation time in the off seasons.



Commensurate with experience and ability ($1800-2000/month), Housing included. Meals included during summer, 1 week vacation, paid, post summer (if position is 4 months or more)

Responsibilities by Season:


Pre Summer Duties:

  • Staff orientation preparation and planning
  • Communicating with incoming staff
  • Reviewing/Finalizing weekly summer schedules
  • Training program staff
  • Directing program staff in planning:
    • Major Program Activities
    • Theme Days/Events
    • Approving supply purchases
    • Arts and Crafts preparation
  • Planning/Directing Internship Program
  • Office Tasks:
    • Registration communication
    • Scholarship Assigning
    • Marketing
    • Answering phones/emails related to program questions


During Summer Responsibilities

  • Staff supervision
    • Leading staff meetings
    • Observing shelter chats and mealtimes
    • Meet with each staff member for Mid Way Pow Wow (review)
    • Offer informal feedback and available for support
  • Available for camper needs
    • Emotional needs (homesick, etc)
    • Disciplinary needs
    • Physical Needs (injury, illness, etc)
  • Communicate with Parents
  • Oversee Program Staff leading program activities
  • Oversee Volunteers including:
    • Shepherds
    • Program volunteers
  • Communicate with kitchen
    • Program food needs
    • Camper food allergies, intolerances
    • Number of people on site
  • Office Tasks:
    • Shelter assignments
    • Form collection
    • Printing Schedules
    • Answering phones
  • Encourage, support and have fun with staff and campers
